Greta Kaufeld

Greta is a final-year PhD student at the MPI in Nijmegen, where she has been studying spoken language comprehension since 2016. Her research focuses on how listeners get from “sounds” to “meanings”. What different sources of information do listeners combine to understand language from an acoustic signal - and how?

Greta studied Linguistics and Cognitive Science in Marburg, Naples and Edinburgh (and also a bit of Vocal Performance in Bremen). Before coming to Nijmegen, she worked as a software engineer teaching sunglasses how to talk. She has greatly enjoyed advocating for Open Science practices and teaching introductory courses on computer programming throughout her PhD (to people, not sunglasses).

In her spare time, Greta loves singing, tinkering around on the piano, playing with her band, doing yoga, and pursuing her second passion as a vocal coach.
